From The Heart of the Pastor
Is it true 2010 is almost over and 2011 is rushing in? This month we will eat Thanksgiving Dinner and hopefully say thank you to our family and friends for all the good times we have shared together. Maybe you could write a card to one of the many service men and women that have helped to provide our freedom or personally tell them, Thank you.
Next month we will have Christmas dinners. Is it just me or do we eat our way through the holidays? Let's not forget the wonderful hours spent shopping for just the right gift for that someone special. You know who they are, the ones whose eyes twinkle when that smile lights up their face.
I've always been amazed at how much more aware I become of time the older I get. It also seems to me, that during the holiday season, my thoughts are drawn back to those past events and experiences, after reflecting (usually with smiles and tears). I ask myself a very important question; "Have I reached my personal, professional and spiritual goals for the year?"
A few weeks ago I had to have a route medical checkup, after a short stay in the hospital. If you're like me, it was not something I looked forward to. But I have learned from family and friends, that if a medical problem is diagnosed early it can avoid major problems.
Paul says in 2 Cor 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
Otherwise take a spiritual checkup. Just as with medical checkups, spiritual checkups aren't very pleasant either. The truth is that none of us like to examine ourselves, or to ask a trusted friend to tell us the truth about what they see. If we avoid a spiritual examination, tragic results will take place.
That's why I've learned that it's just as important to go through the discomfort of a "spiritual examination" by my trusted friends and God's Word. James warned in James 1:23-25, 23 For if any be a hearer of the word and not a doer, he like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass. 24 For he beholdeth himself and goeth his way and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
This year isn't over yet and so I challenge you to evaluate yourself spiritually, by looking into God's Word and asking, "What can I do differently to grow closer to God and allow others to see Jesus in my life?"
Then watch for God's blessings in the days, months and years ahead. Your Friend, Pastor Rick

Thanksgiving is November 25th We have so much to be thankful for in America, with its faults, it is still the best country in the world. We just need to stay focused on God, the one our country was founded on. The Mayflower compact! What is it? The Mayflower Compact is a written agreement composed by a consensus of the new Settlers arriving at New Plymouth in November of 1620. The Mayflower Compact was drawn up with fair and equal laws, for the general good of the settlement and with the will of the majority. When creating the Mayflower Compact, the signers believed that covenants were not only to be honored between God and man, but also between each other. They had always honored covenants as part of their righteous integrity and agreed to be bound by this same principle with the Compact. John Adams and many historians have referred to the Mayflower Compact as the foundation of the U.S. Constitution written more than 150 years later. America was indeed begun by men who honored God and set their founding principles by the words of the Bible. They lived their lives with honesty, reliability, and fairness toward establishing this country “for the sake of its survival.” A great many of America’s Founding Fathers have been quoted in regard to living by Biblical values. Edmund Burke (1729-1794), outstanding orator, and leader in Great Britain, defended the colonies in Parliament. "There is but one law for all, namely, that law which governs all law, the law of our Creator."
Patrick Henry (1736-1799), five-time Governor of Virginia, whose "Give me liberty or give me death" speech has made him immortal, said: "It cannot be emphasized too strongly, nor too often that this great nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religions, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ." Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826), third U.S. President, chosen to write the Declaration of Independence, said: "I have little doubt that the whole country will soon be rallied to the unity of our Creator, and, I hope, to the pure doctrines of Jesus also." He proclaimed that it was the God of the Bible who founded America in his 1805 inaugural address: "I shall need, too, the favor of that Being in whose hands we are, who led our forefathers, as Israel of old, from their native land and planted them in this country."
____________________ New Member's Corner “In their own words”
I know Chris Ristow, who goes to Galmey Church. After my husband passed away, she came to me and mentioned Galmey Church. I went one Sunday morning, but it was too soon after I had lost my husband. I tried another church later but was not comfortable at all. The people at Galmey were so friendly and the Pastor and his wife were so down to earth. I enjoyed the church service, and it held my attention. I went back again, and again. I was baptized in Galmey Cove the second week in June this year. Sincerely, Barbara J. Davis. ____________________ A Wonderful Low Impact Aerobics Exercise Begin by standing on a comfortable surface. With a 5-pound potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax. Each day, you’ll find that you can hold this position for a bit longer. After a couple of weeks, move up to 10- pound potato sacks, then 50 pound potato sacks in each hand for a full minute. After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each sack. ___________________ "Contented"
The definition for contented is “manifesting satisfaction with one’s possessions, status or situation.” As we near the holiday season and with the hectic world that we live in, sometimes we forget about how important it is to be contented in the present. Always thinking of tomorrow or what should have been is mostly futile. Decorations, gifts, activities and food take up a lot of our time and thoughts during this time. Thanksgiving is about being thankful for all things. Christmas is about the birth of Christ. It really is not that complicated. If we stop----and remember that God is the only source of truly being contented. Paul wrote in Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect for want; for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. V.12 I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound; But being contented does not mean that we get complacent and stop witnessing and serving. ____________________ Hard work spotlights the character of people. ____________________ The Bridge Builder An old man traveling a lone highway came at evening cold and gray, to a chasm deep and wide. The old man pass the twilight dim, but he turned when he reached the other side, and built a bridge to span the tide. Old man cried a fellow pilgrim near; you're wasting time with building here. Your journey will end at close of day; you'll never pass again this way. You've passed the chasm deep and wide, why build you this bridge at eventide? The builder lifted his gray old head, good friend on the path I've com he said. There followed after me today, a youth whose feet must pass this way. This stream, which has been as naught to me, may a pitfall to that fair haired boy be. You see he too must cross in the twilight dim. Good friend, I'm building this bridge for him! ____________________ "January New Beginnings" Ruler of new beginnings, gates and doors, the first hour of the day, the first day of the year, the Roman god Janus gave January its name. He was pictured as two-headed (both heads bearded) and situated so that one head looked forward into the new year while the other took a retrospective view. Janus also presided over the temple of peace, where the doors were opened only during wartime. It was a place of safety, where new beginnings and new resolutions could be forged, just as the New Year is a time for new objectives and renewed commitments to long-term goals. "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God." John 1:1
