From the Heart of the Pastor

"A Special Name"

I’m sure that all of us have a "Special Name" that we call our children or grandchildren. Like "Critter", "Boo", or "Sis" or "Pumpkin" or "Little One." Whatever the name, it has a special meaning to us, and is never given or used as a put down or in a derogatory manner.

In fact that "Special Name" may remind us of someone or a special time in our or their lives. It may even have been given at or before birth. In fact most husbands have special names for their wives, and wives for their husbands, that they used when they were courting. For the younger readers, that is called dating.

Thinking about having a "Special Name" I was reminded about an old hymn that is found in almost all Hymnbooks. The hymn is entitled, "A new Name In Glory. The chorus of the song goes like this (and be thankful that you aren’t hearing me sing it) "There’s a new name written down in glory and its mine, Oh yes its mine." The last part of the chorus says, "With my sins forgiven I am bound for heaven, never more to roam."

WOW! Think about that truth; "There’s a new name written down in glory...your sins are forgiven and your heaven bound!" Revelations 2:17 refers to that "Special Name" as "...a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it." A "Special Name" that only the Lord knows for those that have accepted the fact of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

In Luke 10:1 Jesus sent out seventy others to prepare the way for His coming. In Luke 10:17-20 they are returning, rejoicing and slapping each other on the back, over their victories of demons that submitted to them in Jesus name. Jesus says to them in v.20, "Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven."

When our earthly journey is over, we will face the one that created us, loved us so much that He sent His Son to die for us; John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

What will you hear Him say? Matthew 7:21-23 v.21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

v.22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? v.23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Or will you hear that "Special Name" with these words to follow; "...Well done, thou good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:21

In the book of Acts we learn that people can only be saved by a "Special Name" Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

The Lord is waiting to give you that "Special Name" the one that only HE knows. I don’t know what mine will be, but I know it will touch my heart, and He will say it with all His love.

Your friend, Pastor Rick

IT IS NO SECRET WHAT GOD CAN DO

Evangelist Billy Graham held hundreds of revival crusades around the globe, reaching more than 185 million people. His very first crusade, in 1949, in Los Angeles didn’t get off to a very good start. Billy, then only 31 years old, called a press conference upon his arrival to promote the three week crusade. The next day, not a single paper had carried the story. Needless to say, the crowds were small.

Henrietta Mears, an influential Presbyterian Bible teacher was among the crusade supporters. She invited Billy to her Beverly Hills home to speak to a group of Hollywood personalities. Stuart Hamblen, a hard drinking, brawling star of cowboy Westerns and who also hosted a popular radio show, was present.

Billy and Stuart took a liking to one another and Billy longed to win Stuart to Christ during the crusade. As the crusade was nearing a close, about 4:30 a.m. the in the morning, Billy’s phone rang and it was Stuart Hamblen tearfully asking the evangelist if he could come and talk to him. Billy woke his wife and staff and they prayed while Stuart and his wife drove to the hotel. It was there that Stuart gave his life to Jesus.

On the next radio show, Stuart excitedly told of his conversion and the story spread like wildfire. Soon all of Los Angeles was abuzz about the Graham crusade. That publicity launched 56 years of evangelism unparalleled in Christian history.

Shortly after, Stuart reportedly met John "Duke" Wayne on a Los Angeles street. "What’s this I hear about you, Stuart," drawled the actor. "Well Duke, it’s no secret what God can do," Stuart replied. "Sounds like a song" the duke said. Stuart went home, sat down at the piano and wrote,

"It is no secret what God can do,

What he’s done for others, He’ll do for you;

With arms wide open, He’ll pardon you,

It is no secret what God can do."

Stuart wrote 225 more songs before he died in 1989.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

Vacation Bible School was a huge success with an average attendance of 60 kids, plus adult teachers and workers. The count of pennies from the VBS kids was $ 1,126.15. After the program for the parents, the total offering was $1,346.89. This offering will be given to Jeff and Crystal Allen to use toward their expenses at the New Tribes Language School in Roach, MO. They lead our teen group "TNT" on Sunday evenings. The "TNT" & "SPARK" youth groups will start again in September.

Speaking of teens, we had 17 awesome teenagers attend VBS this year. After their Bible class, they were a big help with the other classes and younger children. Thank you teens for being so special to Galmey Church and helping to make God the ultimate winner.

Thank you also to Vickie Daniel and Kathy Bouillion for listening to God and stepping up, so we could have a great Bible school again this year.

AUGUST TRIVIA

Not many people know that August 13th is Left-Handers Day.  August 13, 2010 will be the 34th Annual International Left-Handers Day.  An organization called Lefthanders International first declared this holiday on Friday, August 13, 1976. They opened a business the same day that sold left-handed products for over 20 years, before going out of business. They also published a magazine to clear up myths about left-handers to let them know that they're all right, er, left. It was no coincidence that the fourth finger of the left-hand was chosen for the wedding ring finger in 300BC. Doctors at that time believed a nerve from this finger ran directly to the heart!

I Thess: 1:3 Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;

A labor of love, for God and man, is what the "Jail Ministry" is for Dale Kelley, Richard Townley and Johnnie Moore from Galmey Church. Dale, now 93 years young, was involved in a Jail Ministry years ago when Ray Tipton was a Deputy Sheriff. That ministry dissipated, but about ten years ago Dale, Richard and Bill Cutler started the Jail Ministry again.

The main focus on this ministry is to give God’s Word to the ones in jail, so they can have hope. The goal of these men is that through the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, the name "criminal" might change to "Christian". Dale is the song leader, even though his sight is dim, he is an encouragement to all, including the men doing the ministry. They meet once a week with the inmates. Thank you Dale, Richard & Johnnie for your ministry.

SEPTEMBER 6TH is LABOR DAY

The first Labor Day was held in 1882. Its origins stem from the desire of the Central Labor Union to create a holiday for workers. It became a federal holiday in 1894. In later years, prominent men and women held speeches. This is less common now, but is sometimes seen in election years. One of the reasons for choosing to celebrate this on the first Monday in September was to add a holiday in the long gap between Independence Day and Thanksgiving.

REMEMBER GRANDPARENT’S DAY SEPTEMBER 12TH

Out of the mouths of babes! I was trying to get my 3-year-old great-granddaughter to sing the ABC alphabet song for me. She wouldn’t have any part of it, so I started singing ABCDEFG and so forth, thinking she would follow suit. Ha! When I was finished, she said "good job, grandma". Needless to say, she never did sing.

I hope that someday she can say about my Christian example, "good job grandma"

Grandmother is mentioned only once in the bible.

Paul is writing to Timothy in 2nd Timothy 1:5.When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.

BEARING PRECIOUS SEED CZECH PROJECT

Rev Don Stertz with "Baptist Couriers for Christ" was the guest speaker for the a.m. worship service on May 23rd. He came to pick up 46,000 John and Romans in the Czechoslovakian language that we had put together, for a mission trip he will be making to Prague, in the Czech Republic. The "Golden City Campaign" will start September 10th going until September 23rd. He, with a team of 35 volunteers are taking 250,000 John and Romans, and Bibles in the Czech language. A missionary, Jon Rettig, initiated this campaign. A church in Prague of 25 people have been praying for 3 years for the word of God, in the Czech language, to use as a witnessing tool. This is an awesome answer to consistent prayer. These scriptures are free to whoever will accept them, as is God’s saving grace for us.

An elderly woman walked into the local country church. The friendly usher greeted her at the door and helped her up the flight of steps, "Where would you like to sit?" he asked politely.

"The front row please," she answered. "You really don't want to do that," the usher said "The pastor is really boring."

"Do you happen to know who I am?" the woman inquired.

"No." he said. "I'm the pastor's mother," she replied indignantly.

"Do you know who I am?" he asked.

"No." she said. "Good," he answered.

OCTOBER is PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH

We appreciate our Pastor, Rick Walters and his wife Edna, so very much. Pastor had a brief, but traumatic visit to the ER and ICU in July. It opened our eyes to Pastor Rick’s vulnerability, and to God’s awesome power. It also showed us another example of answered prayer. If you don’t have a church home, come, try us. Meet our Pastor and his wife. Admission is free.

Pastor Rick, this poem is for you:

Our God has sent you to this place
To lead us in the way
That He would have us work and think
And live from day to day.

No matter the hour; whatever the need,
You go the extra mile -
Always ready and willing to share
A comforting prayer and a smile.

We're grateful that you're here with us
To teach us from His word,
And we will try to do our best
In service of our Lord.

We thank you for your ministry,
Your guidance and your care.
His greatest blessings for your life
Is our most humble prayer.          Author Unknown

OUR CHURCH IS PRAYER CONDITIONED

Our world is made up of seasons. I’m writing this on a very hot and humid July day, (thank God it’s air-conditioned.) You will receive this, probably on another hot summer day in August. The newsletter is covering subjects through October, when the weather will be cooler and the leaves will be turning to a beautiful hue and it will be fall.

We have many different seasons in a lifetime. Seasons of weather, seasons of heartbreak and seasons of laughter just to name a few. Ecclesiastes 3:1

Our church family is going through a season of fervent prayer. We are praying for our church, families, nation, leaders, military, problems etc. Would you join us wherever you are and pray for our nation, leaders, community and whatever is heavy on your heart?
