From the Heart of the Pastor

I’m sure you have noticed and have probably heard “Christmas Carols” playing on the radio before Thanksgiving Day. I‘ve been told that the purpose is to stimulate the economy; get people out to buy. Does that mean that they are trying to reach the same people that have lost their jobs, who are wondering how they’re going to make their next house payment, car payment, or utility bill?

There’s at least one thing that “Christmas Carols” do for me and I’m sure it’s the same for many others, and that is, it renews “True Hope!” “True Hope” replaces despair and discouragement. “True Hope” puts a spring in your step, a smile on your face, and a glint in your eyes. “True Hope” is heard in the kindness of your words and it will change the way we think about ourselves and about others.

Don’t misunderstand, I know that Christmas is more than music, lights, and gifts, but all these remind us of the real meaning of Christmas! Christmas is about “True Hope” and “True Hope” in our hearts will always affect our daily lives.

I don’t know, but I hope that by playing “Christmas Carols” early, it will accomplish what those that are in the know think it will. I do know that “True Hope” is found only in having Jesus in our heart and allowing Him to shine through our lives.

“True Hope” is not found wrapped in colorful paper and bright ribbons. “True Hope” is not to be shared only one time a year. God’s Word tells in 1 Peter 3:15

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Let’s decide that we will share the greatest gift, “True Hope”, with those that we come into contact with every day of this New Year! It doesn’t cost anything because we still have the gift of Freedom to do so and God has already made the payment! “True Hope” is found in receiving Jesus Christ as your personal savior.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

Your Friend, Pastor Rick

The Night Jesus Came

“Twas the night Jesus came and all through the house,

Not a person was praying, not once in this house...

The Bible was left on the shelf without care,

For no one thought Jesus would come there...

The children were dressing to crawl into bed,

Not once ever kneeling or bowing their head...

And Mom in the rocking chair with babe on her lap,

Was watching the Late Show as I took a nap...

When out of the east there arose such a clatter,

I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter...

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the shutters and lifted the sash...

When what to my wondering eyes did appear,

Angels proclaiming that Jesus was here...

The light of His face made me cover my head,

Jesus was returning just like He had said...

And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth,

I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself...

In the Book of Life which He held in His hand,

Was written the names of every saved man...

He spoke not a word as He searched for my name,

When He said it’s not here, my head hung in shame...

The people whose name had been written with love,

He gathered to take to His father above...

With those who were ready He rose without sound,

While all the others were left standing round...

I fell to my knees but it was too late,

I’d waited too long, this sealed my fate...

I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight,

Oh, if only I’d known that this was the night...

In the words of this poem the meaning is clear,

The coming of Jesus is now drawing near...

There’s only one life and when comes the last call,

We’ll find out that the Bible was true after all !!!!!”

For most of us, money is tight this year and stress levels are high. So let’s take some time out to enjoy and appreciate the blessings we have. Take some time this Christmas to tell your family and friends how much they mean to you. Write a note of appreciation, take someone something homemade or spend time with someone, etc.

Shift the focus of your Christmas ideas from monetary to meaningful and don’t let the days pass without absorbing some of the magic of the season. Hold hands, share memories and laugh together, and give lots of hugs; and remember most of all JESUS is the reason for the season.

Isaiah 7:14

Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign;

Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

Luke 2:11-12

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior which is Christ the Lord.

And this shall be a sign unto you;

Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

The Red Wagon

It was the day after Christmas at a small church. The pastor of the church noticed that the baby Jesus was missing from among the figures in the nativity scene. He went outside and saw a little boy with a red wagon, and the figure of the baby Jesus was in the wagon.

He walked up and asked the boy, “Well, where did you get Him, my fine friend?”

The little boy replied, “I got Him from the church.”

“Why did you take Him?” asked the pastor.

“Well, about a week before Christmas I prayed to the little Lord Jesus, and I told Him if he would bring me a red wagon for Christmas, I would give Him a ride around the block in it.”

Auld Lang Syne

Auld Lang Syne has been the traditional song to sing at the stroke of twelve on New Year’s Eve. (Known as Hogmanay in Scotland.) It was written by Robert Burns in 1788 and means “Old Long Since.” In our vernacular, it is “In Days Gone By.” That tradition does not hearken back to Burns though, but rather only to Canadian band leader Guy Lombardo who sang at midnight January 1, 1929 in the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. Guy Lombardo's orchestra played the song every New Year's Eve, in live broadcast from New York, until 1976. Since then, their recording plays each year as part of the Times Square “ball drop.” If you can remember Guy Lombardo, and the big band sound, you know what I’m talking about.

2009 is almost over, gone soooo quickly? It will be 2010 before we know it. There will be lots of New Years Resolutions made and broken. Let’s all band together and resolve to openly put GOD back as the foundation of this glorious country. It’s our responsibility for the privilege to live here and call it our home. We can do it, one person at a time, and together in 2010. Please pray for our military at home and abroad.

After attending a prayer meeting where everyone prayed very loudly, a little kid remarked, “If they lived closer to God, they wouldn’t have to pray so loud.”
