The Galmey Gems reaching out to our community Published quarterly
Vol 8: Issue 4 ___________ February/March/April, 2010
From the Heart of the Pastor
Hello to All Our Faithful Readers;I want to ask a question that I asked myself at the start of this year; “What have you carried into this New Year from last year?” To add to that question, what have I brought over from yesterday into today? I’m sure, like me, you have many good things that you have carried over like love for God, our family, and gratefulness for the freedoms we still enjoy in America. But what about those things that aren’t as nice, such as; selfish attitudes, wrong motives, and ungratefulness for what we do have. Oh yes, how about our vocabulary? You know those words that are spoken with the motive to hurt. You may be thinking about that old saying we used to hear and some of us shouted it out. It went something like this, “Sticks & Stones May Break My Bones, but Words Will Never Hurt Me.” Since our play ground days, (and probably even then) we have learned that isn’t a true statement. It just released some of our pent up emotions and gave us a tool to strike back. I’ve learned and had to relearn that words are like coins, otherwise they have two sides. On one side words can hurt, crush dreams, and can make a person feel of little or no importance. But on the other side they can bring comfort, encouragement, hope, or help someone to stand in a difficult situation. I’ve said things I wish I had never said or could take back. Especially when I’ve witnessed the reaction on the face of the one I was speaking to. I have also said a word that has brought comfort, peace, and hope. At those times my spirit was lifted, as I watched the reaction of the one I was speaking to. I believe that each of us should always speak words of truth with confidence, courage, and compassion to all those we meet. John 8:31-32 V.31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, “If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;” V.32 “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
The choice is up to each of us to make. We can continue speaking words that are comforting or critical. If so, we will continue to carry condemning words with us as we enter a New Year or a new day or we can accept the words of Jesus Christ in, John 8:36 “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” Matthew 12:36 V.36 “But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.” V. 37 “For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” Let me leave you with these words Acts 16:30-32 V.30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? V.31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
V. 32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. May the Lord give you the courage, to speak His Words, to those you meet each and everyday! Your Friend, Pastor Rick
____________________ Precious Lord Take My Hand Thomas A. Dorsey is the author of “Precious Lord Take My Hand,” but he is not the famous band leader, Tommy Dorsey. The author was born in Georgia in 1899, the son of a black evangelist. When the Dorsey’s moved to Atlanta, Thomas, then 11, became enamored with the blues and began playing the piano at a vaudeville theater. He later attended the College of Composition and Arranging and played on stage in one of Al Capone’s speakeasies. Thomas Dorsey found Jesus Christ in 1921 at the National Baptist Convention in Chicago and began writing gospel songs and trying to get them published. Success came slowly, but his reputation and his work finally became widely known. In 1932 he was called to lead the music at a great revival meeting in St. Louis. He didn’t want to go because his wife, Nettie, was expecting their first child; but he went. The next night, after leading the singing, a messenger handed him a one-line telegram: “Nettie is dead.” When he rushed home he learned that their baby boy also had died. For several days he closeted himself away in the lonely, dark apartment they had shared. “I began to feel that God had done me an injustice,” he later wrote. “I didn’t want to serve Him anymore or write any more gospel songs.” The following Saturday, while alone in a friend’s music room, his hands began to move over the piano keys. He felt a great calm – a quiet stillness, he later related. “As my fingers began to manipulate over the keys, words began to fall into place on the melody like drops of water falling from the crevice of a rock: Precious Lord, take my hand. Lead me on, let me stand, I am tired, I am weak, I am worn …” Thomas Andrew Dorsey has authored hundreds of gospel songs, including his equally famous, “Peace in the Valley.” He is remembered as the Father of Gospel Music.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 (NIV) ____________________ Valentine's Day February 14th Think about all of the people in your life that love you and that you love. Doesn’t that make you feel really good? When I think of my Lord, family, friends and church family and how much they all mean to me, it makes my heart flutter. Who has your heart this Valentine’s Day? The word heart is mentioned 743 times in the Bible. It must be very important to God that we have a heart for Him. The Bible says the heart is emotion John 14:1, volition (ability to choose) Ex. 35: 5, intellect John 12:40 and conscience Acts 2:37. Matt: 22:37-38 Jesus said unto them, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul and with all thy mind.” “This is the first and great commandment.” If God is not in your heart this Valentine’s Day, please ask Him in. If you don’t have a church home, please give us a try. Everyone is welcome. ____________________ New Members Corner “In their own words” I joined Galmey Community Bible Church in the fall of 2009. I praise God for His leading me to this place! God had begun speaking to me early in 2009 about finding a church to join. I wasn’t too crazy about the idea. I lost my husband, John Locke, in April 2005. Since that time it has been difficult for me to want to attend any functions by myself. But God revealed to me through His word that I have a responsibility to join others in worship of Him, and to support His work through the church. Originally I had planned to “try” several churches before making a decision to join one. I visited Galmey Church first because John and I had attended a couple of times before his passing, and we felt very welcome. I expected to be nervous about coming by myself, but God was with me that day assuring me I had nothing to fear and much to gain. I never did attend any other churches to “try out” because this one felt like home to me. From the first moment I passed through the front doors, I have felt the warmth and love of everyone here. I have made new friends and look forward to getting to know all the members as time goes by. Thank you, people of Galmey Church, for welcoming me to your “family.” Debra Locke ____________________ February is Bible Publishing Month February is “Bible Publishing Month” at Galmey Church. The Sunday school offering is designated for paper to print scriptures of John and Romans, plus people donate specifically to buy paper. January 20th Miles Wallis and family delivered 30,000 John and Romans in the Czechoslovakian language for us to collate and pack for shipping. This is a special project that we will be doing with Talking Rock Road Baptist Church. Miles is a missionary with the “Seedline Ministry” of “Bearing Precious Seed.” He, with a group of other Christians, went to Guatemala to witness and they handed out John and Romans in Spanish. 400 adults made professions of faith from their trip. That’s why we do the “Bearing Precious Seed” projects at Galmey. To add souls to God’s Kingdom. If you would like to be a part of our BPS ministry, we will be working on scriptures the 1st & 3rd Wednesday thru April starting at 2:00 p.m. After April, we will go back to the 1st Wednesday each month. ____________________ SPECIAL NOTICE There will be a change in future Gems mailings. We will be going from bi-monthly mailings to quarterly mailings. Watch for your next issue in May. Thank you readers for your faithfulness. ____________________

____________________ Daylight Saving Time begins March 14th Set your clocks forward 1 hour Spring begins March 20th ____________________ The U in Jesus
Before U were thought of or times had begun, God even stuck U in the name of His Son. And each time U pray, you’ll see it’s true. You can’t spell JesUs and not include U. You’re a pretty big part of His wonderful name, For U, He was born; that’s why He came. And His great love for U is the reason He died, It even takes U to spell crucified. Isn’t it thrilling and splendidly grand, He rose from the dead, with U in His plan. The stones split away, the gold trumpet blew, And His resUrrection was all about U. When JesUs left earth at His upward ascension, He felt there was one thing He just had to mention. “Go into the world and tell them it’s true, That I love them all----- Just like I love U. So many great people are spelled with a U, Don’t they have a right to know JesUs too? It all depends now on what U will do, He’d like them to know, But it all starts with U! May U trust God that U are exactly where U are meant to be. May U find peace within U.? ____________________ Easter Sunrise Service April 4th
