From the Heart of the Pastor I received an email that was entitled "Nevertheless Moments." The author gave the definition of Nevertheless as: an adverb, which indicates the opportunity to change, yet maintaining the same direction or course of action. I feel we have at least five "Nevertheless Moments" occurring this quarter, so allow me to mention them to you at this time; Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Father’s Day, July 4th and Vacation Bible School July 26-30. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day: a day set aside to honor our parents. You may be thinking, "You don't know what kind of parents I had", that's true. But I guarantee there was a loving lady and man that took you under their wing and sacrificed their time and energy to teach and care for you. It may have been a Sunday school teacher, a schoolteacher, or a coach. God's Word says; "Nevertheless"; Eph 6:2-3. 2 Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. Memorial Day and July 4th: the two days that we take time to remember why we have the freedom that we enjoy. We have enjoyed the freedom to vote, to complain, the freedom to worship God, and the freedom to laugh and cry with a close friend. I think we have taken FREEDOM for granted so long that we have forgotten what it cost. Our nation has its problems but it is still the best country in the world. "Nevertheless" Let’s celebrate our freedom by honoring the ones who fought to provide FREEDOM for us, and encourage the younger generation to do likewise. July 26-30:Why do I consider this a "Nevertheless Moment"? Because V.B.S. is an often forgotten outreach because it takes a lot of work, time, money, and help. It’s worth it, when you see the excitement on those children and teenagers faces (the teens are a tremendous help) when they sing, hear stories about Jesus, and make new friends. We have had several young people attend V.B.S. previously who don’t go to church at any other time, but during V.B.S. Besides, isn’t it worth it all, just to hear that one had come to know the Lord? Matt 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? "Nevertheless Moments" are often those moments that can be defined as turning points in our lives. Those times when we conquer our pride and selfishness by saying nevertheless: I surrender my way, my will to the Lord. One of those "Nevertheless Moments" for me came, in November of 1977, on a Sunday morning after Preacher Chavis asked, is there anyone that wanted to be 100% sure they would go to heaven, when their earthly journey was over, to come forward. I could have stayed where I was, but "Nevertheless" I went forward. I want you to know that I could count the number of times I had been in church on one hand (minus a thumb and a little finger). But that morning, our daughter had asked us to go to church with her, and we did. A missionary intern escorted me to a side room and explained to me some scriptures; what I know now as "The Romans Road". He was explaining Romans 10: 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. I didn’t understand everything he was saying that day; I still don’t understand it all. I could either say yes or no. I am so thankful today that "Nevertheless" I said yes, to what Jesus had done for me; and started a journey that I have never regretted. I trust that you will do the same before it’s too late. If you don’t have a church home, please let us know about your decision to accept Christ and come give us a try. Mother’s Day May 9th ____________________ My Mother’s Garden My mother kept a garden, a garden of the heart, She planted all the good things that gave my life its start. She turned me to the sunshine, and encouraged me to dream, Fostering and nurturing the seeds of self-esteem. And when the winds and rains came, she protected me enough, But not too much –she knew I’d need to stand up strong and tough. Her constant good example always taught me right from wrong, Markers for my pathway that will last a lifetime long. I am my mother’s garden, I am her legacy And I hope today she feels the love reflected back from me. ____________________ Ladies Bible Study Resumes The Ladies Bible Study has resumed on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. at the church. A NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER WILL BE OBSERVED MAY 6th
An exasperated mother, whose son was always getting into mischief, finally asked him. "How do you expect to get into heaven?" He thought it over and said, "Well I’ll run in and out, and in and out and keep slamming the door until St. Peter says, "for heaven’s sake, Dillon, come in or stay out!"
12th ANNUAL MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE On May 30th at 11:00am, we want to once again honor our men and women of the military, past and present. They, not the government, gave us the freedom that we enjoy. Everyone is invited to attend, especially our veterans and active military. ____________________ On May 30th at 11:00 a.m., we want to once again honor our men and women of the military, past and present. _____________________ NEW MEMBER’S CORNER "In their own words" Jeff and Crystal Allen are language students at New Tribes Mission Language School in Roach, MO. When I was first asked to write an article about how Crystal and I became involved with Galmey Community Bible Church, I thought that it would be an easy short story, where I just told all of the facts. But, as I think about the last year, I can see how God orchestrated it all and He alone deserves the credit. Both Crystal and I had a desire to work with youth ministries when we came to Missouri. It seemed kind of arbitrary at first, but since we didn’t know any churches in the area, we asked some staff members if they had any suggestions. Galmey Church was the first church suggested. When we first arrived, we were impressed with the hospitality and friendliness that was extended to us. We were also impressed with how involved the members of the church were with the different ministries they have. When we heard that they were starting up a youth group, and needed help, we asked Pastor Rick how we could get involved. As we look back, we can see from the timing how God had it all planned. Crystal and I have been blessed by the encouragement and support given by the members of this church, in order to see the youth ministry grow. We would also like to mention the hard work and efforts put forth by Al Posey and Joanne Finn. No one has dedicated as much personal time and effort to the youth as these two. We would also like to thank Kevin and Sherry Jones for their continued commitment in providing food for the teens every Sunday night, as well as the teachers who help. What happened here at Galmey Church is more than just Crystal and I. It’s more than just the team that was put together for the youth. This is God’s ministry and I’m convinced that He will see it grow. Jeff Allen ____________________ SPECIAL INVITATION TO YOUTH What? ____________________ Remember Dad on June 20th - Father’s Day The best thing that a father can do for his children is to "love" their mother. A father was trying to read a magazine, but was being bothered by his little girl, Shelby. She wanted to know what the United States looked like. Finally, he tore a page out of his magazine on which was printed the map of the United States. Tearing it into small pieces, he gave it to Shelby, and said; "Go into the other room and see if you can put this together. This will show you our whole country. After a few minutes, Shelby returned and handed him the map correctly fitted together. The father was surprised and asked how she had finished so quickly. "Oh," she said, "on the other side of the paper is a picture of Jesus. When I got all of Jesus back where He belonged, then our country just came together." ____________________ 2 Chronicles 2:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; "then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." ____________________
