Stained Glass Window in Sanctuary
This beautiful stained glass window was given to our church for our new sanctuary with love from the Ladies Mission Circle. The stained glass window was created by Graphic Artist, Clint Hansen from Audubon, Iowa. Around the outside of the frame Mr. Hansen has written, "This window was created by joining many very different broken pieces into a unified grouping that glorifies God. It must have light shine through it, to shine in the same way. May your church bring Glory to Christ as you are unified in His love. May His light shine brightly through you to a dark world. May God's truth always be taught and lived out through you".
The Mission Circle Team meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 9:00am, and the fifth Tuesday of each that includes a fifth Tuesday, in the Activity Room, with a short business meeting the first Tuesday. The ladies try to help meet the needs of our missionaries by helping them with food, spices, clothing, quilts, and other needs they might have. Often the church as a whole is involved in these projects.
In 2005 the Mission Circle made a total of 98 quilts. They are currently endeavoring to make 100 or more this year. The quilts made are generally donated, with love, to mission organizations, primarily those working with the American Indians.
In January, 2006, 30 quilts were sent to our missionary affiliate, Pastor Willie John. They also donated 18 quilts to the Good Samaritan Boys Ranch near Bolivar. In addition, 4 quilts were given to a family whose home was destroyed by fire at the beginning of this year. Also, on March 24, 2006 the Mission Circle Team donated 6 quilts plus six $50.00 gift certificates to various members of our community whose homes and all their belongings were demolished by the F-3 tornado which touched down in Carson's Corner. We also give a quilt to missionary familes having a new baby and to those in need in our community for a variety of emergency reasons.
The Mission Circle Team has been sending $5.00 birthday gifts and $5.00 for graduation gifts to the missionary kids. Recently, we voted on an increase of these gifts to $8.00 for birthdays and Highschool graduations.
Our Mission Circle Team is also involved in making lap robes and other gifts such as pairs of socks, plus 2 pairs each of hand crocheted booties and sugarfree and regular candies for the shut-ins in our local nursing homes located in Hermitage and Urbana. Generally, these gifts are given in December.
The Mission Circle Team is primarily supported in the church budget, however, they also take up a collection at the monthly business meetings for missionary kid's birthdays and graduation gifts. The ladies also give $35.00 quarterly to Friends in Action for medical kits to be sent to the missionaries in the mission field.
Something else they do is collect cancelled postal stamps, Campbell’s soup labels, Best Choice UPC labels, and pull tab pop tops, all of which go to help different organizations raise money for children and retired missionaries. Please see Shelly Helton or any of the Mission Circle Team members if you would like to join them in collecting these items or you may prefer to give a cash donation in lieu of this.
All ladies in the Church are invited to join us in working for the Lord. You will be blessed by giving of your time and talents. You might even discover you have a hidden talent! You are always welcome to just spend the day with us and see what we are all about.
Praises and many blessings to all the ladies who serve and faithfully attend to work for the Lord. Your dedication and work are sincerely appreciated and we certainly "Give God the Glory".
Respectfully submitted,
Shelly Helton
