Gary & Ann Laver became a Galmey Church’s supported missionary in January 1999. They went to Venezuela and began planting churches. Gary began helping to translate the Bible in the Pume’ dialect.
It has not been easy for them in Venezuela. In 2002 all foreigners were pulled out of the Pume’ work because of the real threat of being kidnapped by guerrillas. They were assigned to manage the guesthouse and do fresh order buying for the rest of the tribal teams. Then in 2004 the President of Venezuela ordered all the New Tribes missionaries to leave the tribal territories. They were asked to stay and help finish the works that could be carried on outside the tribal areas. Gary became involved with the maintenance of the office, guesthouse and school. He has also overseen the construction of a discipleship house for the Pume’. Ann continues doing the finance work and overseeing the guesthouse. She also helping to format the Pume’ literacy lessons and hopes to start putting the Pume’ dictionary in a more user friendly program to allow updates when needed.
They praise God for:
- Continued translation and distribution of God’s word in various languages
- The completion of the Pume’ New Testament and more Bible lessons in Pume’
- Spiritual growth among the tribal churches
They thank everyone for:
- Being a part of their work and the prayers for them
- Your prayers that there will be stability in Venezuela
- Your prayers for their health issues
